Three butterflies climb across the band: royal blue, emerald green and clear. Each one is built from a small cluster of stones rather than a single centre stone, which is what makes them read as wings instead of dots.
The blue and green butterflies use round faceted stones. The clear butterfly is built from pear-shaped stones, so its wings look lighter and more open than the other two — that difference is deliberate, and it is what stops the three from merging into one shape.
The band itself is wide and domed, in a vintage ring silhouette. The butterflies sit on top of the dome rather than being cut into it, so they stay legible from across a room. They also photograph clearly from above, which is why the piece works as well in pictures as it does in person.
