Butterfly Jade Earrings: Design Story

These butterfly jade earrings pair a pavé-set butterfly connector with a polished natural Hetian jade bead. The butterfly is a motif that travels well — read as delicate in the West, as a symbol of joy and transformation in the East.

Suspended beneath is a round, polished Hetian jade bead in pale celadon. Jade is carved and polished rather than faceted, so its surface reads as soft and watery instead of sparkly — a deliberate contrast to the butterfly’s brilliance.

The two elements hang from a slender hook ear wire, forming a vertical three-part drop: hook, butterfly, jade.

Craftsmanship: Pavé Butterfly, Polished Jade

The butterfly’s four wings are pavé-set: small round white zircon stones are seated close together so the metal barely shows between them, giving a continuous field of light across each wing.

The jade bead is polished to a smooth, even surface and held by a C-shaped crescent silver setting that cradles its lower half, leaving the top exposed. The metal is finished to a bright, rhodium-like polish.
